How to SAFELY practice Pigeon

There are several variations of the Pigeon pose - kapotasana in Sanskrit. From the beginner-friendly half pigeon lying on your back to the advanced king pigeon pose, pigeon is a popular pose for improving hip flexibility and mobility.

Pigeon targets the hip flexors, glutes, hamstrings, psoas, and piriformis muscles helping relieve tension in the hips and improve range of motion.

Regularly practicing pigeon can improve posture and alignment, relieve stress, and promote a sense of calm. The gentle stretching and movement of the lower abdomen may help support digestion.

In this video, Maggie Pintos and Jana Davis demonstrate correct alignment for variations of Pigeon.
