Katelin Ryan

Katelin with her favorite horse.

Hey! Katelin here…I’m writing my own bio and I figure in that case, I’d prefer to talk to you directly over talking about myself in the third person 🙂

I started practicing yoga after a very tumultuous time in my life. I was healing from a drug addiction. I was only 20 years old and I’d moved from NY to FL for rehab, then found myself shaken, stirred and plopped back down into my “old” life. I thank God often that He led me to yoga during that time, because it changed me in ways that I didn’t know possible.

I will never forget my first real class (after months of “Yoga with Adrienne” at home). It was freakin’ HARD and I felt stupid and awkward, but I had a moment in Warrior 2 that I hadn’t seen coming. I was looking over my outstretched hand, legs trembling, and the teacher told us to breathe. I listened and my body steadied itself. For those few seconds I felt strong for the first time in my life.

I took my deadset, make-it-happen, addictive personality and thrust it into yoga from that day forward.

I decided shortly after that I had to learn everything I could about this practice, because I needed (yes, needed) to teach it. Not for me, but for you. For everyone who ever felt weak or in need of fixing in one way or another. If it could do it for me, it would do it for someone else.

I’ve never felt like I needed to “give back.” I’ve only just felt that I, so badly, want everyone to experience the power they have to evolve. To change in the right ways, even - and especially - if that change is only in perspective. In learning to love themselves just right as they are, right where they are.

This practice is what’s worked for me, so I teach it because it’s what I know.

It is the honor of my life to find myself in the room with people it works for too, and to witness the evolution in them. If you think it might work for you, I hope you’ll give it a try, and that I meet you on the mat.

With Love,

Katelin
